There was with great joy when Kathryn van Boom, grade 11 learner at Bergvliet High School, received the news of her selection for the SA U/19 softball team to represent South Africa at the Junior Women’s World Championships (JWWC).
South Africa will host 16 other countries – including previous champions USA and Japan at Turfhall Stadium, Athlone from 7 to17 December 2011.
Team selection has been the result of long hours of training. Kathryn has needed to juggle her time exceptionally well to ensure that her school work and all other school extra curricular activities were not affected.
The enjoyment and experience she has gained from the high standard of coaching and also twice weekly training workouts at the Sport Science Centre will hold her in good stead for future club and provincial games.
Kathryn says, “Its been by the grace of God that I have been blessed with this once in a life time opportunity to represent my country in my home town, as well as the ability to cope with activities that I am involved in, maintaining a very high standard though out “.
Her hard work, dedication and commitment has seen her achieve yet another of her goals.
